Halloween is around the corner and, the anime that have recently released are all in the horror genre. Out of all of them, my favorite would have to be Jujutsu Kaisen.
The series is so catchy, feels modern, the animation is top-notch and, the story is one of a kind with a new perspective.
Welcome back to another anime review. Today we will be discussing Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 3.
Nobara Kugisaki is the third first-year enrolled in Jujutsu Tech. Itadori, Fushigoru, and Gojou have arrived at the airport to escort her.
At first glance, she is a nit-picky girl, judges people before she gets to know them, but there is a certain ‘sweet’ relatable factor to it. Satoru Gojo is also one of my favorite characters. He is funny and insanely powerful at the same time.
He promises Itadori and Nobara a trip around Tokyo but, they stumble upon an abandoned building in Roppongi and, it turns out to be a test.
According to the logic behind jujutsu sorcery, graveyards attract curses because of the emotion instilled in people regarding ghosts. The stronger those emotions are the, stronger the curses will be. The main difference between a big city like Tokyo and the countryside is that curses’ strength is directly proportional to the population density of the area.
Gojo has gifted a blade to Yuji to cut curses down in an instant, and Nobara has weapons of her own. This anime sticks to its ‘basic’ genre, horror. It skillfully develops the eerie atmosphere that the story needs. Curses, voodoo, and such satanic practices are the name of the game.
Yuji comes into contact with a spirit and, he takes him down in quick succession. His physical attributes are a plus point to his skill. As he is inexperienced in dissipating cursed energy, he makes that up in an athletic and innate sense.
Nobara is the central figure of this episode. It is the first time meeting her and, making us fall in love with her in the first episode is a feat in itself. She uses nails infused with cursed energy to destroy a demon who was masking itself inside a mannequin.
A boy emerges out of nowhere, scared, and not knowing what to do. A cursed spirit comes from behind and takes the boy in his custody. He threatens to kill him and, Nobara has no choice.
Nobara has had a hard life. Her friend was ostracised from society and made to leave home for not following the belief of some people. It had a horrifying effect on Nobara. She is almost about to give up her life when suddenly, Yuji smacks open a cavity in the wall.
He grabs hold of the kid and rescues him. The cursed spirit is about to escape and in the knick of time, Nobara saves the day. She uses voodoo and pierces the cursed spirit’s hurt, in turn, subduing it.
Both of them have excelled at their tests, and it is time for the next step. The dynamic of the group is very happening. Even if the anime is horror and cultish, it brings to it a certain level of relatability.
It is enjoyable for the fans, and it also sticks to the source material and never waivers away from it.
In the last scene, a disturbing event is showcased. A floating cursed fetus is seen by normal humans. The story shifts in a different direction and, it might not be something we fans can handle.
Hello everyone! Welcome back to another exciting anime review.
Jujutsu Kaisen is back with its 2nd episode and, it is all that we have ever wanted. The story unravels in an exciting turn of events.
Satoru Gojo arrives at the scene of the massacre. Fushigoru is down and suffering from injuries.
Satoru Gojo is a goofy guy, fun-loving but, when he buckles down, he is a monster at martial arts. He is intrigued by Yuji, who has swallowed the cursed object.
He wants to go head first against him in his transformed state for 10 seconds. Satoru Gojo is so confident that if Yuji goes out of control, he can definitely stop him.
Being a manga reader, Satoru Gojo is a literal beast. He is powerful and one of the most entertaining characters that Jujutsu Kaisen has to offer.
For 10 seconds, Yuji, possessed by Sukuna, spars against Gojou and still couldn’t lay a finger on him. He was so fast that he whooped the living daylights out of Sukuna. It’s just the second episode, and the fight was truly impressive. The animation was clean and, Gojou Satoru is my favorite, hands down.
Yuji shockingly gains control of Sukuna as promised and, he is subdued by Gojou after. Fushigoru requests Gojou that Yuji not be executed as a curse and, his teacher gladly acknowledges his request.
Back in the creepy room where Itadori is shackled, Gojo explains to him about the fingers and the demon that is Ryoumen Sukuna. Yuji is given two options. Either be executed directly or consume all 20 parts of the fingers and be executed. In the end, he has to die, but the notion behind the decision is what counts.
The great thing about this anime adaptation is that they are sticking as close as they can to the source material. The continuity is not being interrupted and, the world-building of Jujutsu Kaisen given importance.
Unlike God of Highschool, Jujutsu Kaisen focuses on fleshing out its characters and the world before entering into the fight sequences. The animators did a great job regarding this, and it is to be appreciated.
Yuji Itadori is a highschool kid, and facing such circumstances in his life is traumatizing. He visits the hospital to meet his seniors who, were injured in the aftermath of the incident at school. He sees for himself that leaving curses to roam free around the aura of Sukuna’s cursed fingers is not something he can allow. He also cremates his grandfather, who passed away on the night of the incident. The author subtly compares death and unnatural death in such a way as to pave the way for Yuji to make a difficult decision.
Gojo tells Itadori that it isn’t an easy task to become a Jujutsu sorcerer, and he may come across unnatural and gruesome deaths along the way. Yuji decided that for the greater good, he has to do it. He decides to follow his grandfather’s last words and eat all the parts of Sukuna. He doesn’t care what happens after that, but the choice of choosing how you die is what will drive him forward. It sounds like twisted logic, but the emotion and belief behind it are what matters. Freedom to choose is what is conveyed.
When I first read the manga, Jujutsu technical school in Tokyo was a spectacle to behold. The architecture, the environment it was situated in was so engaging. The anime has brought that same feeling to me. The environments, the Japanese culture, and the artistic originality of the vicinity is mesmerizing and needs to be appreciated. They have done so much justice to this anime that it makes me teary-eyed thinking about it.
Ryoumen Sukuna surfaces on Yuji’s skin and threatens Gojo. After possessing Yuji’s body, the first person he was going to kill was Gojo. Gojo being a confident guy is honored that Ryoumen Sukuna wants to kill him. He accepts the challenge.
Satoru Gojon describes Ryomen Sukana as a demon with four arms who revealed over the world 1000 years ago and was considered the King of curses.
Let’s dig a bit deeper into Japanese Folklore. The Sukuna was a two-faced demon who, according to the “Chronicles of Japan” (compiled in 720), ruled the Hida region with an iron fist until it was conquered by Emperor Nintoku (313-399). It had one face in front and one in the back and had four arms and legs. In two arms it held bows and arrows. Woodworking people of Hida, Enku depicted him with an ax instead. He put the two faces in front, one friendly, one with a wild expression. In Hida, this deity is seen, as the founder of the domain, Hida no Kuni. Hida folklore, however, claims that he defeated an evil dragon and is an incarnation of Kannon with the power to grant salvation. While “Nihonshoki” described Ryomen-sukuna as a villain and an enemy of the emperor, people in Hida and Mino Provinces treated Ryomen-sukuna as a hero and benefactor and worshipped him. I believe that this is the same character that the author has based his demon on. According to the lore, maybe Ryoumen Sukuna could turn out to be a savior, but a villainous one at that.
Yuji is introduced to the principal Yaga Masamichi. He looks like a cool guy but is seen, making toys. It was very contradictory at first, but when we saw the use of his skills, the world was introduced to a really cute and fierce form of fighting.
The principal was quite straightforward at asking the reasons behind Yuji joining the school. He sets his green bear doll to attack Yuji and was ordered to not back down until he got a proper answer from Yuji.
The conversation between the principal and Yuji was really interesting. It was a battle between the convictions and beliefs of 2 different people. Trying to find common ground and the hope of educating Yuji of what it means to be a Jujutsu sorcerer.
Yuji Itadori, tells him straight forward that he doesn’t know how he will die or what will be the circumstances, but he doesn’t want to live a life in regret. He is the only one who can consume Sukuna and, he is going to achieve that. The story is well thought out and, the characteristics of each person are very well portrayed in this anime. It especially conveys to the audience.
Yuji is accepted into Jujutsu technical Highschool. His journey begins. Satoru Gojo is a friendly and likable character. More than anything, I feel he cares for his students the most. He tells Yuji that he is now a vessel and a tracker to find the missing pieces of Sukuna. It’s a bumpy road ahead and, they are off to pick up the 3rd first-year student.
The highlight of this episode is the ending song. It reminds of the ’70s with its hip-hop genre and, watching it you, just want to groove with your favorite characters. I have been watching it on repeat for two days now. It’s just unbelievable. This anime is looking better and better with each passing episode. For an anime that is surrounded by eerie mystery, curses, and demons, there is a little fun in it as well.
Hello everyone! Its a new day and, its time for a new anime review.
I have been excited for this anime adaptation ever since I read the manga. The pacing, the story, the characters, and the scenery, everything was so appealing. I experienced it through reading and, I thought of how they can top that?
Well, I’ll tell you how. Let’s discuss Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami and published by Shueisha shonen jump magazine. It revolves around Yuji Itadori, a highschool teen who consumes a cursed object and becomes a vessel for a demon. He stumbles into a world of cursed spirits, sorcery, and the dangers that come with it.
The animation has been done by non-other than Mappa Studios. Mappa has been on a roll this year with their ‘hyped’ series God of Highschool which, ended last week and an upcoming final season of Attack on Titan releasing in December. The animation is fluid. The colors bring out the eerie atmosphere portrayed by the series.
Yuji Itadori is shackled to a chair, in a locked room surrounded by lanterns and seals to drive away spirits. Sitting in front of him is a mysterious man, Satoru Gojo, who tells him that he is to going to be executed secretly. Shocking right? What would happen if the main character got killed in the beginning?.
Well, we will have to wait and see what happens. Let’s talk about the opening. The animation is flawless that nothing else can happen but to embrace its brilliance. The level of detail is like a Makoto Shinkai movie. Of course, there are a lot of spoilers in the opening but, they don’t let go of many things. Each character shown in that opening is damn interesting.
This anime’s premise is different than all those conventional anime. ‘ I want to be this great figure that everyone looks up to and respects’ this is not what the anime is about. The central focus of this anime is death. Death is inevitable, and everyone will die one day. Yuji Itadori is a teen who faces a lot of hardships in his life.
His grandfather is hospitalized and, no one looks after him. Yuji doesn’t know the identity of his parents and, his grandfather is all he has. Yuji attends Sugisawa Highschool and he is a part of the occult research club. He is accompanied by his seniors Sasaki and Iguchi. They research about paranormal activities and they came up with the theory that the football field might be haunted. The narration of this story is the funniest part.
Another ‘important’ member of this story is Megumi Fushigoru is a sorcerer who is on a mission to find a ‘special grade’ cursed object. He fails to find it at the intended spot and widens his range. He reaches Yuji’s school and, there he sees Yuji challenged by his field coach. Megumi is astonished by the sheer strength of Yuji, who doesn’t even use curse energy like Megumi.
He wins the Match and saves the occult research club from being disbanded. He runs towards the hospital where his grandfather is admitted in. As Megumi and Yuji cross paths, he senses cursed energy brewing inside Yuji and decides to follow him.
Yuji’s grandfather has many regrets in life and doesn’t want the same for Yuji. He tells him to help people unconditionally without expecting anything. He wants that people must be with him when he dies and so that he doesn’t end up like his grandfather. This scene is what builds a base for the premise of this show. Death is inevitable, and everyone will die one day. Yuji wants a death deserving of people. He doesn’t want anyone ending up dead in a gruesome or brutal way. That is what Yuji aims to accomplish.
He passes away and, this hits Yuji bad. As he is filling the form, Megumi arrives and introduces him to Yuji. He asks about the cursed object and tells him that it’s dangerous for him to be even around it. He tells him about the club and their activities, and that they plan to peel off the object to uncover the secret of that object.
They rush towards the school, but they are too late. The curses have risen from beyond and are latching itself to Sasaki and Iguchi. The fight scenes are just incredible. Megumi is a character that can be loved a lot, and he is a righteous man no matter what.
Yuji remembers the words said by his grandfather and decides to take matters into his own hands. As Sasaki and Iguchi are being swallowed by the curse Yuji flies in through the window and saves them. He believes that everyone should get a proper death and this isn’t one such like that.
Megumi explains that the cursed object, the finger is a part of Ryoumen Sukuna, a cursed spirit who lived along time ago. He explains that if anyone swallows it then, Ryoumen Sukuna will take over their body and wreak vengeance on the world.
The curse comes back to finish what it started. Megumi gets hurt and is in a sticky position. Yuji steps to save him and, he believes that he can go against this curse. He has been captured by the curse and is going to be killed. He swallows the cursed finger and attains the power of Ryoumen Sukuna. He wipes out the cursed spirit in one blow.
As epic as it was, the curse has taken over Yuji’s body. Ryoumen Sukuna is reborn. Yuji, however, gains control of his body again but, he has to face Megumi now. He means to exorcise the curse Yuji Itadori.
The series is off to a good start. The pace is good and they aren’t rushing things. They are adapting one manga chapter per episode and I appreciate that. The next episode is one to look forward to. You are not ready for the beast known as Satoru Gojo.
Hello Everyone! Welcome back to another anime review.
It’s been a long time since I’ve reviewed this manga and I thought better late than never. Let’s discuss Jujutsu Kaisen.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It revolves around a highschool boy who swallows a cursed object and then shares his body with an evil spirit. He learns how to control that power and becomes a jujutsu sorcerer. The mysteries and emotions behind death are one of the highlights that this manga follows.
Chapter 2: Secret Execution
Yuji wakes up and realizes that he is shackled to a chair. Sitting in front of him is an unfamiliar character who goes by the name, Satoru Goju. He introduces himself as a teacher at Jujustsu Highschool.
He warns Itadori that this is his secret execution. According to Jujustsu sorcerer laws a cursed human has to be executed. Satoru Goju has plans to turn him into a vessel so that he can consume all 20 parts of Sakuna, the cursed spirit.
Choices are given to Itadori on what he wishes to do. Die Now, or after consuming all Sakuna’s parts. Satoru Gojo tests Itadori back at school and sees if he can handle the monster within. He passes with flying colors but faints out of exhaustion.
A vessel like this only appears every 1000 years. The execution of Yuji might lead to slim chances to destroy Sakuna ever. Yuji visits his classmates in the hospital. He witnesses the after-effects of the damage caused to his friends. Sasaki weeps for her friend and blames herself. Yuji consoles her and tells her ints not her fault.
Yuji Itadori is portrayed as a caring character. He is not blind to the unfortunate circumstances people go through because of the curses. He wishes to sincerely do something to curb this outcome. He decides to go along with Satoru Goju’s plan and consume all Sakuna’s part before he is killed.
His late grandfather said, “When its time to go, make sure you’re surrounded by others.” These words have been the driving force for Itadori to make this decision. He swallows the second piece of Sakuna’s body and gains control over the spirit.
Impressed by Itadori’s feats, Satoru Goju enrolls him in Tokyo Prefectural Jujustsu high school.
Chapter 3: For Myself
The scenery of the highschool is traditional. It is located high up in the mountains and is also used as a base for Jujustsu sorcerers to reside. Yuji and Satoru walk through the bushes to meet the principal of the high school.
The artwork in the manga is breathtaking. Each page looks spectacular and bodes well for the genre of the series.
Sakuna is a demon with four arms and two faces as per Gojo’s description. He is a demon of legend. Sakuna rears its mouth through Yuji and threatens to kill Goju first, once he possesses the kid’s body. Gojo is quite honored and accepts his challenge.
Satoru Gojo’s character up until now is a breath of fresh air. He is calm all the time and fights like a professional. No loose ends and no messes.
Yuji meets with the principal of Jujutsu High school, Masamichi Yaga. He looks like a cool guy but his morals and methods are different. Yuji is asked a question as to why he wants to be a Jujustsu sorcerer. He replies saying that he wants to consume Sakuna and pay homage to his grandfather’s last wish.
The reality of becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer is quite different. The motivation required to come to terms with death and curses must be your own. As Yuji goes against the principal’s puppet, he thinks about why he wants to do it. He realizes he cannot burden anyone with his decision and wants to do good.
“I’m not gonna regret the way I live,” he says and passes the principal’s test. The series sets its basic premise up very well and the idealogy behind everyone’s action. The build-up of the story is very appreciative of the characters and that is what an anime should be like.
He moves into the dorm, meets Megumi who has been rested up and is now ready to go. Gojo tells them Yuji that he is a radar for the rest of the pieces of Sakuna and to find them is not an easy task. A large open world quest is about to begin according to these words.
They set off to bring the third recruit back to Tokyo. Morioka is where they will find Jujutsu High first-year Nobara Kugisaki.
Chapter 4: Girl Of Steel
Nobara Kugasaki is a typical high school girl. A bit quirky and a bit condescending. She judges people before she knows them but its a part of her charms and we cannot disagree.
Now that all the three students are together they head off to the countryside for a test. Roppongi, a less populated area of Tokyo is their destination.
A cemetery and an abandoned building are seen in that area. Jujutsu Kaisen subtly iterates its premise and workings. Megumi points out that it’s not the cemetery that is the cause of the curse but the fear and feelings behind the notion of ghosts and spirits. It is quite a predicament that Jujutsu sorcerers have to go through but it is a necessary evil they have to face to protect people.
The interactions between all members are very interesting. The story playfully presents the initial impressions of the characters and slowly creates situations for them to understand the worth of certain things. To change in different ways and to enhance themselves is the goal.
This location is the place where Goju means to test Yuji and Nobara. He sens them in to face curses. Since Yuji is not familiar with using spells to expel curses he is given a dagger named slaughter demon. Yuji and Nobara instantly encounter curses and their test begins.
Yuji takes down his enemy with brute force. He is rather impressed with himself. Nobara is next and she has a tough one on her hands.
Hey everyone! Welcome back to your daily fill of anime reviews. Today we will be checking out an interesting manga I recently read. Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 1. Let’s dive in.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami. It revolves around a highschool boy who swallows a cursed object and then shares his body with an evil spirit. He learns how to control that power and becomes a jujutsu sorcerer.
Chapter 1 : Ryomen Sukuna
The story starts in the backdrop of a high school named Sugisawa Municipal Highschool. Yuji Itadori and his 2 friends Sasuka and Iguchi are members of the occult research club. A person interrupts them while summoning spirits. He explains that they are going to change the occult research club into the girls’ track and field changing room.
The main character of this story is Yuji Itadori. He is a high school student who is quite funny but deep inside he is a very caring person. The coach challenges him in hopes of him joining the track and field team. He accepts the challenge and participates in a short put match.
The character possesses the natural physical ability and this will be a boon in future chapters. He does not wish to join the track team because he is taking care of his grandfather in the hospital. His grandfather tries to tell him the identity of his parents but he doesn’t want to know.
Yuji is a caring person who was abandoned by his parents for some reason. He cares for his grandfather but he doesn’t show it much. His grandfather passes away but leaves a message behind. ” When you die, make sure you surrounded by some close friends,” he said.
While he is signing the discharge papers, a mysterious guy appears asking for his name.
Megumi Fushiguro and his purpose for being at the school is suspicious. He talks of cursed objects and he sees weird creatures in the air.
According to him, cursed are graded and the monster he saw was a grade 2. He is searching for a special grade curse that could potentially wreak havoc in society. He crosses paths with Yuji because he senses a bit of curse energy from him.
He follows him to the hospital and asks for the location of the special grade object. He says that it is with the occult research club and he only has an empty box. Megumi warns him about the consequences of peeling off the seal from the object.
They rush towards the school to save his friends.
The Occurrence At The School:
Sasaki and Iguchi are members of the occult research club. I believe that they are really good additions to the story to bring out Yuji’s emotions. He is a friendly person and cares about people.
They are at the school and debunking the mystery behind the cursed object. They peel off the seal from the cursed object and find a finger, a human finger.
A portal opens up and many creatures come out of it. Yuji and Megumi rush towards the scene. Yuji instantly senses negative energy coming from the school. Megumi advises Yuji to stay back and he will handle the issue.
Sasaki is panicking in a corner of the school and a monster just passes her by. She is trembling with fear. Some kind of cursed being has taken over Iguchi. Megumi rushes to the club room and fears that the curse may have escaped.
Megumi uses sorcery and summon wolfs and engages to attack the monster. Yuji thinks about what he is doing. He thinks about her grandfather’s death and what his emotions were to it. The word death has been highlighted and it will play a major part in his life.
Megumi is too late, a curse is trying to absorb Sasaki and the finger. In that instant, Yuji rushed in through the window and attacked the monster. He saves Iguchi and Sasaki from danger. Yuji has some ability to see Megumi’s Shikigami (Summoned wolves ).
Yuji’s character is beautifully portrayed as a selfless friend and a level headed guy. He conveys to us that its better for someone to have the best possible death and not a frightening one. Reflecting on his grandfather’s word that shows a level of sincerity to one’s self.
The grade 2 monster attacks Megumi. It is the same creature he had seen before. Dominated by its power, Megumi is flung from the building. He manages to save Yuji and the other before that happens. Megumi injured and incapacitated he takes on the monster. In that instant, Yuji jumps in from nowhere and takes down the monster. Megumi explains that only a curse can exorcise a curse.
Megumi Fushigoru advises Yuji to escape with his friends. Our valiant hero will not let anyone die. He eats the cursed finger. Shocken and scared of the consequences, Megumi knows that the object is poisonous and could kill him. But there is one in a million chance that things could turn around.
Ryomen Sakuna takes over Yuji’s body and attacks the monster. It decimates the monster. Yuji loses control of his body and Ryome Sakuna, the curse takes over. It is on its way to rampage the land.
Strong-willed Yuji Itadori demands that he gets his body back. The curse is astonished because no one had the strength to do this to them before. In the end, Megumi wakes up and says that according to jujutsu regulations he will have to exorcise the curse known as Yuji Itadori.
This series is something special. It is a fine example of how much Shonen Jump has changed. Bringing new and interesting stories to the masses. The personification of achieving the correct death is interesting. As the series continues it is going to get interesting. Looking forwards to more chapters.
