Welcome back to another fun-filled anime review.
Today we will be discussing Black Clover episode 137.
Let’s dive in.
Black Clover is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Yuki Tabata. It revolves around Asta, a boy residing in the clover kingdom who does not have any magical abilities in a word where that isn’t considered normal. He trains and joins the Black bulls to achieve his aim of becoming the wizard king.
The training arc episodes continue and show each character’s development throughout the days. In today’s episode, the main focus is on Charmy and Gordon.
Charmy tries to create food that would enhance the mana of her teammates. The proportion differs and mana overflows from all her teammates. Asta races to stop them. Charmy understands she will need special help to upgrade her skill.
She approaches for the help of Jamo, a chef that resides at the magic knights headquarters. They before had a run-in when the evil organization “eye of the midnight sun” attacked the capital.
Her new teacher instructs her to train her body first so that she can attain more stamina and she can gain mana to seal away her magic. It is sufficient for her mana to be in control. He then tells her that to achieve an enhancement in mana in her food, she will have to find 3 unknown ingredients.
She travels far and wide to obtain these ingredients. It wasn’t an easy task but she manages to overcome the obstacles and get it. She makes food along with those ingredients and serves them to her teammates.
They aren’t too excited about the food but Asta insists that everyone try a bite. In that instant, the food starts to mutate and takes over the castle. Finral teleports them outside but the attack continues.
The food has come to life and it is extracting mana from each of them. Yami tells Asta to destroy the food. He is hesitant to do so and comes up with a plan to eat the food instead. He respects his teammates so much that he couldn’t do it. The others join in as well and gobble up the food.
Asta inadvertently tells Charmy that it was good food but the love that she usually puts into the food wasn’t there. She understands what was missing and goes back into research and development mode.
I love how Black clover is doing a part by part analysis of all its characters. Their aspiration, the point they have reached, and what improvements are to be made are essentials to a training arc. There is still a lot we do not know about Charmy but this is one step towards that. She is compassionate towards her teammates and that’s all we need to know right about now to love this character.
Gordon is an introverted member of the Black Bulls. His expertise is in poisonous attacks and has been into creepy stuff as well. He was distant from people at the start of the series but after meeting Asta and engaging in a lot of battles his character has evolved a lot. He mixes well with people and he understands them better now.
He starts doubting his abilities and thinks about what he can do to improve his spells. He challenges Asta to see if he is strong enough or not. Asta easily cancels off his poisonous gas attack and he realizes that something has to change.
He decides to leave the castle to go train in a forest next to the strong magic region. Mereoleona Vermillion trained in those strong magic regions and Gordon wanted to do the same.
He encounters certain magic creatures who steal his bag of rations away from him. He survives with no food or water for 3 days. He gets into a fight with a Magic beast but his magic does not affect it. He realizes that being alone did not give him the strength to fight, but being with his friends is what did that.
Protecting his friends who accept who he is the reason why he gets to be strong. To have a purpose in life, that is what this training arc has taught Gordon. He shows love to the magic beast and it gives up its rage and shows Gordon the way out of the forest. He returns to the castle.
The anime has been incorporating these episodes which are not a part of the manga. These are extra episodes we are getting. I find this to be a good thing because the anime was getting too close to the manga chapters. The pacing is good and its a joy to watch a Black Clover episode every week. It never lets you down and you enjoy it. You have to have an open mind about it. 😀
