Which are a few must-watch movies during a pandemic lockdown?

I know its a hard time now. Everyone’s bored and at home thinking of what to watch. I’ve got you covered.

The top 5 anime movies you can watch on youtube.

Let’s dive in.

Number 5 – Whisper of the heart :

This anime movie is produced by Ghibli studios and directed by Yoshifumi Kondo.

Whisper of the heart is a wonderful love story. Shizuku a sweet girl who is also an avid reader visits the library where her father works. She checks out a lot of books but she finds that someone name Seiji Amawasu has checked out every book she had selected to read. She searches for this person who may as well be her soul mate.

If you do get a chance watch the Japanese version as well. There is a beautiful rendition of country roads – by John Denver in Japanese. It is an all-round love story that you would want to watch again and again due to its wonderful animation, and gripping story.

No.4 – 5 centimetre per second:

5 centimeter per second is a coming of age love story created by Makoto Shinkai. It depicts 3 phases of a boy’s life and the love stories he goes through.

It is a movie that is very close to reality and it will leave you thinking. The parallels between distance and love are discussed. It shows the inevitability of love and what the reality surrounding it looks like.

No.3 – Garden of Words:

This is a movie that is just breathtaking. Makoto Shinkai does a wonderful job animating this and truly it is a spectacle that is ahead of its time. It discusses two strangers who visit a park whenever it rains. Their friendship grows into love and it drives the whole story forward. The music and every scene in this movie are breathtaking. I would definitely suggest everyone watch this.

No.2 – My Neighbour Totoro:

This is the Ghibli movie which gave the studio its mascot, Totoro. It has been directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story revolves around 2 sisters and her dad who have shifted to a new house. They befriend a woodland creature from folktales Totoro and they go on a wonderful adventure. This movie was suggested to me by a friend and I enjoyed every part of it. I’m sure you will love it as well.

After watching this you will want to buy all the Totora merchandise you can get your hands on. I would give it a 10/10, so check it out.

No.1 – Grave of the fireflies:

This movie has been produced by Ghibli Studios and directed by Isao Takahata.

This movie revolves around 2 siblings and their struggles during the world war. The movie is set in the backdrop of the war between Japan and America. it is a gripping story that will leave you crying around each corner. This is definitely a movie that can change your life.

I loved this movie mainly due to its authenticity and a fine storyline. It depicts real life in the form of animation and leaves you thinking about the world differently.
